I've got a gig! Got some referrals for a backing band that sound sweet. Literally, very young and talented. Can't wait to rehearse. Meeting for Coffee, Starbucks, very together sounded. Corporate, but that's more than fine with me.

My electronic mastery hasn't progressed much. I thought I could convert songs on CD to mp3 files, but maybe I can't because I can't upload them into my sites. I need to be able to do at least that. I will have a chance to meet someone who can teach me that much, and hopefully how to create e-mails that start playing my music as soon as they are opened. I can send them out bookers or record label representatives.

I went to an event for CDbaby artists yesterday. Useful for networking, but mostly depressing. If some of these guys were half as good as they say they are, they'd be selling millions of copies. Everytime I'm about to embrace Sacramento as a great hometown, they do something small town like this. Oh well. I met a lot of great people as well.

Zone of Transformation

Did you know there is a Zone of Transformation in Sacramento, California? There really is. It's about a 10 yard sluice of concrete with an etching of Edward Hubbell on one side of it, with a golden orb at the other end of the monument. It's called the Zone of Transformation and I'm not going to argue with that. I like it, actually. Hopefully it's a harbinger of things to come on this blog.

I started writing this a few days after releasing my solo cd and realizing that myspace is just too in your face commercial for me. This cd is a professional jazz creation, and it came about while juggling a lot of blood, sweat, and tears at a day job, and I don't want to reduce my desire to share it with the world to a billboard on myspace.

I'd like to get to know whoever else can be found in this community, maybe someday hear something about the cd. But if I just hear from any other artist who doesn't earn a living at his or her art, that'd be cool with me. This will also force me to become more technologically aware. I'm celebrating my 50th birthday this year, and I think the best way to do it is by learning something new about the world. Something new has got to be digital possibilities. Enough to last me another 50 years.
